Ramadan 1441 AH / 2020 Announcement

Alhamdulillah, the blessed Holy month of Ramadan Mubarak is upon us from Saturday 25th April 2020. The new crescent was not sighted anywhere in the UK or Morocco, therefore as the blessed Sunnah commands us, we will complete 30 days for Sha’ban.

WFIA is regularly asked why is Lea Bridge Road Mosque always a day late for Ramadan / Eid and so on?

If you look at our moonsighting report for Ramadan above, you will see there were no sightings at all in the UK or Morocco (or South Africa for that matter). Quite simply, we rely on local UK sightings and and defer to Morocco or South Africa where UK sightings are not possible. For Ramadan, this is fully compliant with observatory reports which stated the new crescent could not be sighted anywhere in Asia, Middle East, Europe or Africa on Thursday 23rd April 2020. Like the hundreds of mosques around the country, we’re not a day late but on time, do things according to the moonsighting conditions of this country – the country in which we all live.
