Unite for Humanity Indoor Fair for Palestine
We know that our local community are humanitarians with giving hearts. Whenever we have highlighted a charitable cause, you have without fail, donated generously. For that we thank you, but we now are calling on you for your support for arguably our most important and urgent cause to date – to raise funds to provide critical medical aid for the people of Palestine.
Our Ambition
Our ambitious campaign is to raise more than £80,000 to purchase two ICU ambulances and additional medical supplies. We have a 100% donation policy but need your Gift Aid to help make this happen.
The ICU ambulances have been specifically requested by the brave medical staff remaining in Gaza, who are risking their lives every day to try to save others. Aside from enabling transport, the specialist equipment in ICU ambulances also allows rapid triage and roadside poly-trauma management of patients who have sustained catastrophic injuries. Receiving such treatment in these early crucial minutes can save lives and limbs.
Why this campaign?
While there are many deserving campaigns at any one time, the totality of the destruction and the loss of life in Gaza cannot be understated. The scale of the humanitarian crisis and the death toll among Palestinian civilians is unprecedented. On 18th December 2023, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported 19,453 confirmed Palestinian deaths, 70% of which were women and children. A further 52,286 Palestinians have been injured. These extraordinary figures have occurred in just two and a half months since 7th October and the daily death toll continues to rise by the hundreds.
Furthermore, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are no remaining hospitals in northern Gaza and only one partially functioning hospital in the south, which struggles to serve a population of two million people, many of whom are displaced.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire. The well-documented targeted attacks on hospitals and healthcare workers in Gaza has almost completely depleted any opportunity to provide civilians with life-saving care. We have therefore launched this campaign in an attempt to help the victims of Gaza in a direct and meaningful way and we implore our friends from the local community and further away to dig deep to help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
